Summary of Garments Sector in Bangladesh

Garments are a fundamental need for human being. Bangladesh earn lion share of our export earnings from garments sector. Garments industry of Bangladesh is more than 500 years old. There is a large job market in Bangladesh & global. At present there are 5500 garments industry in our country. At least 45 lacs peoples are working in this whole sector. According to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), total 84.21% foreign currency comes from Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector in the 2018-19 fiscal years. This sector contributes 13% GDP in 2018-19 fiscal years in our country.

Course Details

Diploma in Garments Design and Pattern Making (GDPM) is a technology of Diploma in Textile Engineering program. It is also 4 year long program and consisting of 8 semesters (each semester is 6 month). Two exam such as in-course and final exam held per semester conducted under the supervision of Bangladesh technical Education Board (BTEB).

Job placement sector

After complete the course having scope to doing smart job in the following sector:

• Garments factory: Merchandising, IE, R&D, Washing, Planning, Production, HR etc.
• Govt. /Others like: BJMC, BJRI, EPB, BGMEA, BKMEA, EPZ, BTEB, BSTI, BTMC, etc.
• Govt. Job (Special): Instructor (Technical), Instructor (Vocational), PSC (Non Cadre) etc.
• Special Job: Marketing-Machineries, Accessories/Trimming and Testing-SGS, Intertek, ITS, Bureau Verities etc.

Contribution for Garments Design and Pattern Making (GDPM) of ISTT

Institute of science trade & Technology (ISTT) established in 1998. Institute of science trade & Technology (ISTT) is affiliated institute under Bangladesh Technical Education Board. This institute provided 4 years Diploma in Garments Design and Pattern Making (GDPM) degree since 2003-04 sessions. Our students achieved outstanding results in Technical board. They are doing their job in different garments industry in Bangladesh & abroad.

Academic Session

The admission procedure starts after the SSC results. There is mainly one session in a year. Students have to follow the admission announcement which is given by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) authority.

Opportunity of Higher Education

After completing Diploma they are having scope to complete their Bachelor course in both Fashion Designing from reputed private universities and B.Sc. in Textile Engineering from public University DUET & BTEC and M.Sc. in Textile Engineering from BUTEX. Students can take their B.Sc., M.Sc. & PhD degee from abroad.
